Virtual Book Clubs

I’m Jane Buckingham and here’s the latest from the Trendera files.  The trend of virtual book clubs, which gained popularity during the pandemic due to social distancing, is extending beyond literary circles as various non-book-related businesses are now launching their own versions. Following the success of celebrity book clubs (e.g. Reese Witherspoon and Gwyneth Paltrow), TikTok and Apple Music began hosting book clubs, with Apple introducing "Strombo's Lit," overseen by Apple Music host George "Strombo" Stroumboulopoulos. From there, smaller brands have joined in: MUD\WTR, a coffee company, introduced its book club with a focus on encouraging positive habits, starting with "Atomic Habits" by James Clear, and Chico's also initiated its own book club with "No Filter: The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful." As brands seek to build out the lifestyles and communities associated with them, virtual book clubs are just the ticket to help consumers forge connections and make more meaningful touchpoints.
